Racing Edge is pleased to offer this incredible Sauber-Mercedes C9 for sale.
This marks a rare chance to own an astoundingly accurate rebuild of an all-time classic and multiple race-winning Group C car.
BBM Sport spent two years and over 2,740 hours completing the most authentic rebuild possible of the Sauber-Mercedes C9. It features what was originally the spare chassis from the 1989 C9, rescued from the museum at Donnington racetrack in the United Kingdom.
The importance of the C9 in Mercedes’ history should not be underestimated. It was the first race car in the modern era to run the marque’s famous ‘silver arrows’ livery and ended the German manufacturer’s wait of over 30 years for a world championship title.
The 1989 Sauber-Mercedes C9 produced one of the most dominant displays ever witnessed throughout a racing season, and only failed to win once during that year.
Its Le Mans victory that year personified its supremacy over its rivals. Jochen Mass, Manuel Reuter and Stanley Dickens piloted their C9 car to victory and led home team-mates Mauro Baldi, Kenny Acheson and Gianfranco Brancatelli for a memorable one-two.
The partnership between Mercedes and Sauber was a classic example of two exceptional racing icons working together to create something truly special and unique. But more than that, it created a true winning machine.
BBM’s extensive efforts to recreate and resurrect the brilliant Sauber-Mercedes C9 has resulted in a high-quality, precision-engineered machine that is a real attention-grabber. Its power and noise remain distinctive and bring that pure smile-on-your-face racing from start to finish.
Former driver Acheson was invited by BBM Sport for an emotional trip down memory lane once this terrific rebuild was finally finished. And he was left mightily impressed by every inch of the car – see the video below!
