This incredible vehicle has real racing history. This a copy of the car as driven by Fabrizio Barbazza from Monza, Italy during the 1987 season and sponsored by Arciero Wines. The car finished third at the 1987 Indianapolis 500.
This fantastic 1987 March Indy Car #12 features a Cosworth V8 2.65-liter DFX motor with Hewland 5-speed gearbox that gives excellent performance. It includes fire safety system and current seatbelts. It is very easy to drive. The transmission is like new and with its road course wings, very safe.
The car was restored by Cal Wells in Jeff MacPherson livery brand. It was housed in MacPherson’s father’s museum in Tustin, California. Rob Blondel then bought the March Indy Car at an R&M auction at the museum following MacPherson’s passing.
The car was then bought by the current owner and Nick Slade prepared it for track. It has since been run twice at Fontana and the Indianapolis Speedway. The March Indy Car was completely disassembled after discovering it was Barbazza’s third-place finisher at the Indy 500. It was then repainted back in Arciero Wines colours.
The Cosworth was also shipped to VDS Racing Engines in Indianapolis and no expense was spared in overhauling the engine. Chuck Cornelison rebuild. New oil tank, radiator, lines and Slack 7 system installed and EFI ignition box fitted.
The March Indy Car has since been run at the Portland International Raceway and twice at Indianapolis. The DXF is turned once a month and its pre-heated every four months.
