Originally a US delivered road car this example still retains it’s original body shell and colour that has since been restored quite beautifully. A great deal of love and care has been invested, with particular focus and consideration to race preparation and development, whilst in true Touring spirit retains a suitable balance for the road. As such, the car is as pretty in the flesh as the studio photography suggests with superb panel fit and finish. The livery has been applied with stickers so is easily removable or changed however the former owners cherished Bulldog motif in our eyes adds character and a good nickname for this superb race car. INTERIOR Considering the broad operating bracket of such an example, the cabin has been sympathetically updated with safety in mind but pleasingly retains its character and originality where possible – dials, switch gear and controls remain untouched finished with a proper period 4 spoke wheel. The MSA Historic Passport dictates the safety enhancements inside, equipped with a full FiA Zero 360 extinguisher system and Lifeline pull switches. ENGINE &amp; TRANSMISSION The epic Solex fed 2.0l engine is the beating heart of this classic 911 – creating that incredible Boxer aural symphony. Drivetrain has been modified to ensure pedal box, clutch and ratios are all perfectly matched for fast road and circuit driving. Finally, an LSD ensures maximum efficiency and adjustability. Hours are extremely low given the car has covered nominal mileage since construction. It has never raced and had just one shake down. WHEELS, TYRES &amp; BRAKES Iconic Fuchs wheels present in immaculate condition – a symbolic option amongst classic Porsche variants. The entire braking system has been replaced and upgraded where possible whilst suspension hardware has had similar attention; everything has been removed, stripped, inspected, cleaned and powder coated to as new condition. All parts are in accordance with FiA Appendix K legibility. HISTORY FILE Chassis 303208 was completed in December 1965, originally finished in Schwarz 6609 (Black) and delivered new to Hobart McAlister of Beverly Hills through Competition Motors in Culver City, California. The car came to the Netherlands in 2010, where it was selected by renowned early-911 racing specialists Duel Motorsport as a prime base for a full FIA-spec rebuild. Under Ed Poland’s direction, Duel has become one of Europe’s standout preparers of SWB 2.0-litre 911s, and are well known for developing the red SWB 2.0 that produced one of the most-viewed Spa qualifying on-boards with Pascal Pandelaar at the wheel. 303208 was rebuilt with a fully welded-in FIA Appendix K roll cage, a Duel Motorsport 2.0-litre race engine running Solex carburettors and their own exhaust system, and a short-ratio 901 gearbox with LSD. Other race components include Duel driveshafts, Duel suspension, a 100-litre ATL fuel cell, heated windscreen, AIM HD camera and Solo lap timer, a Recaro competition seat, and a Zero 360 fire system. The project was completed in 2017 and the car has seen only minimal running since—just one shakedown and no competitive use—so hours and mileage remain very low. It is accompanied by a current FIA HTP (valid to December 2027) and a UK V5C for road registration. This is an excellent candidate for prestigious historic events such as Tour Auto, Mille Miglia and with a few updates eligibility for the Spa 6 Hour or the ever growing 2.0L Cup series. EXTERIOR
Refinished in a period correct coat of Mexico Blue this RSR looks absolutely sensational, with the vivid blue and custom white livery it amplifies the wide hips and squat stance that make up that renowned athletic form. With no visible stone chips or scuff marks to note the car looks factory fresh with genuine RSR front and rear bumpers, rear arches and ‘tea tray’ spoiler the car looks like it’s ready to be revealed as a new entrant at Le Mans in-period.

Being FIA compliant, this extreme track toy is ready to dominate any race in its class as an Appendix K build.

INTERIOR
Focused is the word to describe upon climbing aboard this track special, nestling down into a low slung Recaro bucket seat with the familiar 5 dial arrangement in front. In line with FIA regulations a Sabelt 5 point harness and a fire extinguisher are equipped to ensure everything is appropriate for scrutineering. Overall the cabin presents in excellent condition with the seat showing no wear or fraying and dash top free from cracks or distortion.

During the restoration process the bare bone interior was giving a new lick of paint and protection from rust and corrosion, built to the same specification as the 70’s race car.

ENGINE &amp;amp; TRANSMISSION
This mighty RSR engine develops 350bhp at the rear wheels alongside a kerb weight of 940kg; an impressive power to weight ratio that ensured the car would dominate the race calendar during the 70’s. Drivetrain is provided by a 915 5 speed gearbox, an internally mounted oil pump for better lubrication and a limited slip differential with shorter ramp ratios. Further genuine parts were used to finish the engine build including Genuine RSR oil tank, RSR Fuel injection pump, Oil filter and Fuel pumps.

Built on the base of an original 1974 2.7 MFI, significantly this example has the correct Torsion tube reinforcements as per the original 3.0 RSR builds.

Turning the key reveals the sum of the vast mechanical upgrades, with the noise from the Genuine RSR exhaust system roaring through the cabin as the revs build to create a raucous and riveting driving machine.

WHEELS, TYRES &amp;amp; BRAKES
Finished in gold and chrome the Centre Lock 9 &amp;amp; 11 inch deep dish wheels present in excellent order and are a perfect period compliment to the alluring bodywork. The staggered wheels are wrapped in Goodyear Eagle slick tyres; ideal for track work.

Supplied with finned 4 pot brake calipers and discs found on the iconic 917, the braking system also features dual master cylinders to ensure fantastic stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
Beginning life as a German supplied ’73 Carrera 2.7 MFI, this spectacular RSR was used on the road before finding its way into the UK in 1982. There is extensive history spread over 2 large files after arrival into the UK with visits to Neil Bainbridge and Autofarm amongst myriad works and servicing carried out with other specialists including Charles Ivey. The first UK owner would hold on to the car for an incredible 17 years before sale to Nick Moss in the early millennium; a passionate Porsche enthusiast who embarked a project he didn’t think he would start; “What started in June 2001 as a gearbox change due to a weak syncro on 2nd gear led to a complete engine strip when I found a broken barrel stud. One thing led to another as the end of summer approached and I decided to carry out a complete restoration”

Upon completion Nick had successfully built a 3.0 RS with uprated power and styling – ready for the british roads. The full restoration process is all documented in the history file.

Having enjoyed the car for 5 years, the current owner purchased in 2005 and wanted to do something very special; a full FIA regulation approved 3.0 RSR using Genuine parts that would suit both road and track. The results are just fantastic!

EXTERIOR
For 1973, FiA Group 4 homologation and special GT’s took on a new form – enter the Porsche 911 3.0 RSR. With a larger front air dam, wider steel arches and the renowned whale tail rear spoiler, 15 of these fantastic machines would be ordered for a new series in the US by Roger Penske – the International Race of Champions.

Here we have not only an original IROC entrant, Chassis 0124 is the most successful chassis to have raced in the series. Having been restored by top classic restoration and race specialists – Karosserie Stimming (who include Walter Rohrl amongst their driving team) the car is in fabulous condition having been part of a significant Porsche collection.

The paintwork presents beautifully in a uniform and consistent hue all around the car, not often the case with track optimised examples. With only one or two light chips to the rear arches to report, the front air dam and rear wing present as the should alongside excellent fit and finish of all trims and rubbers.

INTERIOR
The attention to period correct detail on board is second-to-none, with only a front passenger seat and extinguisher plumbing setting the car apart from the paddock at Riverside in 1973. The cabin has been sympathetically updated with safety in mind but pleasingly retains its character and originality where possible – dials, switch gear and controls remain untouched finished with a magnificent 3.0 RS steering wheel alongside the IROC gearshift sticker. The Recaro seats, barely used and in excellent order, are equipped with 4 point harnesses.

By using GRP panels, plastic side windows and stripping out all but the most essential items of interior trim, the RSR barely tipped the scales at 900kgs.

ENGINE &amp; TRANSMISSION
The pace in development from RS to RSR over a 2 year period involved significant work to the engine – capacity increased from an initial 2.7 to 2.8 then 3.0 with special ‘high butterfly’ fuel injection, bigger valves, higher compression and racing cams producing a reliable 300 horsepower at 8,000 rpm. For the series finale at Daytona, and having had the engines sent back to Germany, the cars were dyno’d at an average of 316hp.

Having been rebuilt to exacting spec, the IROC specification engine is simply a work of art.

WHEELS, TYRES &amp; BRAKES
The Fuchs wheel design is symbolic amongst classic Porsche variants and original set fitted do not disappoint with huge 11 inch rears and 9 inch on the front. All four corners matched to period Michelin rubber.

Supplied with finned 4 pot brake calipers and discs found on the iconic 917, the braking system also features dual master cylinders to ensure fantastic stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
Initially supplied as a spare car alongside 0040 Birch Green and 0042 Jade Green, 0124 Black did not compete in Race 1 of the inaugural IROC series.

However, as is the nature of one make series with cars suffering damage, it would not be long before the car took the grid with George Follmer in Race 2.

Follmer would start 9th and battle through the field to secure the win – a debut victory for 0124! For Race 3, Mark Donohue would start from pole by virtue of a DNF in Race 2. The All American legend would dominate from lights to flag with a resounding second victory and in doing so ensured a 100% winning record for 0124. Given the car did not compete in Race 1 or the series finale at Daytona, it won the only 2 races it ran in and was the only ever IROC to win two races.

The most successful IROC RSR would then be sold to prominent racer Al Holbert, who later ran Porsche North America’s Motorsports Division.

– Daytona: A.Holbert 2nd

Unfortunately a testing accident at Mid Ohio brought an early end to 0124’s racing career before leading Porsche aficionado and author John Starkey purchased the car from Holbert’s workshops in 2007. The following year, the car was sold to Ulrich Schumacher who was keen to return the rare RSR to its original IROC livery and specification. In 2009, Schumacher instructed Karosserie Stimming, one of the most respected German Porsche restoration specialists, to bring the car back to it’s former glory.

The car still has the correct 911/72 engine (6840026) which was subject to a thorough rebuild alongside the gearbox. All racing history and movements in the US are well documented and also feature in the Matt Stone book – The IROC Porsches with original Fahrzeugbrief, road registration papers and restoration details included in the history file.

As a company famed for it’s racing DNA, Porsche Motorsport does not come any purer than this. Given the iconic badge, the hall of fame driving roster and incredible success this car achieved in period; Chassis 0124 has to be one of the most significant racing 911’s in existence.
